Tattoo Aftercare: cling film and second skin method below.
Cling film method
Step 1 - Cleaning
• After removing the cling film, wash your tattoo with warm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap.
• Use only your hand (no cloths or sponges).
• Pat dry gently with a clean kitchen towel or allow to air dry for 5-10 minutes.
Do not rub, do not use tissue or towels.
Step 2 - Moisturising
• Apply a thin layer o f tattoo aftercare balm. Do not over-apply - your skin needs to breathe.
Step 3 - Re-wrapping
• Cover with fresh cling film, making sure not to touch the side that will contact the tattoo if it is in an area where clothes or shoes will rub.
• Avoid re-wrapping in very hot or humid weather, as sweating may irritate the skin.
Frequency
• Just recover during the daytime if needed no more than 3 days, always wash and cream when you remove it, leave it uncovered over night.
After Uncovering
• Once you stop wrapping, wash your tattoo at least twice a day during the first week
• From week 2 onwards, washing once a day in the shower is enough.
• After 2 weeks, you can switch from balm to a mild, fragrance-free moisturiser if preferred.
• Keep applying balm/ moisturiser 3-4 times daily for a total of 4 weeks.
Second skin method
Step 1 - First 24 Hours
Leave the second skin in place for at least 24 hours, even if it looks wet, inky, or smudged.
• To remove: do this in the shower or under running water. Gently pull the edges outward until it releases from the centre. Do not rip it off like a plaster.
Step 2 - Cleaning
• Once removed, wash and dry your tattoo as described in the cling film method.
• You may re-wrap with cling film if needed, but it's not always necessary.
• If left uncovered, wash your tattoo at least twice a day in the first week.
Step 3 - Extended Use
• If after 24 hours the second skin is still feeling ok and not too weepy, you
can leave it on for up to 4 more days. It is shower-proof.
General aftercare (both methods)
• Some weeping is normal in the first 24 hours.
• If you notice dark redness, excessive soreness, or unusual discharge after
this stage, stop wrapping and let the tattoo dry out for 1-2 days. Then begin light
daily moisturising.
• Showers are fine, but avoid baths, swimming, or soaking for at least 2
weeks.
• Keep your tattoo out of the sun for 4 weeks. After this time, use sunscreen
to protect the colours.
• Do not pick, scratch, or peel scabs this can pull ink out. If you accidentally
knock a scab off, contact me and I'll tidy it for free.
• If you're worried or need advice, send me a message anytime.
